§ Mr. FreemanThe civil service management code gives Departments and agencies discretion to grant special leave for voluntary public service. There are no centrally prescribed limits to the amount of special leave that may be given to a civil servant who is appointed as a justice of the peace. Departments are aware of their obligation to comply with section 29 of part II of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978.
