§ Sir John WheelerNorthern Ireland Departments did not arrange any celebrations, events or festivities. However, the Department of Education encourages schools, by way of a circular which issues annually, to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the celebration of Commonwealth day to increase pupils awareness of the nature and significance of the Commonwealth and to extend the range of their knowledge and understanding of it.
