§ Mr. SteenTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what work his Department will carry out on deregulation issues in the run-up to the intergovernmental conference. [18643]
§ Mr. David Davis[holding answer 7 March 1996]: The deregulation unit of the Cabinet Office is the lead Government Department on deregulation issues. Its work is fully supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The Government are committed to improving European regulatory systems and reducing the regulatory burden of European law. Not all this work requires treaty change, and most of it will continue outside the IGC.
