HC Deb 04 March 1996 vol 273 c49W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisons in England and Wales have a race relations committee. [18085]

Miss Widdecombe

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the temporary Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from A. J. Butler to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 4 March 1996:

The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about race relation committees in prisons.

128 establishments in England and Wales have Race Relations Management Teams. Some of these teams each cover two establishments, and all establishments in England and Wales are covered by a Race Relations Team.
