§ Mr. MacleanThirty per cent. of notifiable offences recorded by the police in which firearms were reported to have been used in England and Wales in 1992 involved pistols. The figure for 1993 was also 30 per cent. and that for 1994, 23 per cent.
Information is not collected centrally on whether these weapons are licensed. Most firearms used in crime are not covered or are untraceable because their serial numbers have been removed.
