§ Mr. Waldegrave[holding answer 17 June 1996]: A functional breakdown of general government expenditure from 1978–79 to 1995–96 is given in cash, in real terms and as a percentage of gross domestic product in tables 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 respectively of the "Public Expenditure Statistical Analyses 1996–97", Cm 3201. A more detailed breakdown of the general government expenditure can be found in table 1.5 of the same publication for the 1990–91 to 1995–96 years. Figures for other functional headings are available only at disproportionate cost.
