asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to their Written Answer to Lord Marlesford's Question on 14th May (H.L. Deb., col. WA 51), what percentage of the total number of BSE cases given therein involved cattle in each of the following categories: (i) Cattle aged over 3½ years: (a) females in calf or milk, (b) other females, (c) males: (ii) Cattle aged 2½ 32½ years: (a) females in calf or milk, (b) other females, (c) males: (iii) Cattle under 22 years: (a) females, (b) males.

Records do not distinguish between females which are in milk or in calf and those which are not. The following figures therefore provide a breakdown only by age and sex:
