To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the British Veterinary Association about vets' signatures on cattle birth registration documents. [28869]

[holding answer 10 May 1996]: The British Veterinary Association has made representations to the Chief Veterinary Officer about the role of local veterinary inspectors in facilitating cattle birth record documents which were introduced at the request of the industry after consultation with the British Veterinary Association and the British Cattle Veterinary Association.

We shall be making some minor changes to the present arrangements following further discussion with the relevant veterinary associations.
