HL Deb 25 July 1996 vol 574 cc155-6WA
Baroness Castle of Blackburn

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that Section 59 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 is not being used by farmers to deter walkers from using rights of way which cross their fields; and if so, whether they will amend the Act to prevent them from doing so.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Earl Ferrers)

We are satisfied that Section 59 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 is not being used by farmers to deter walkers from using rights of way which cross their fields. We have no plans to amend the Act.
