asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the average total cost of a Training and Enterprise Council and what is the top level salary paid.

The Minister of State, Department for Education and Employment (Lord Henley)

Her Majesty's Government contract with Training and Enterprise Councils for the delivery of a range of programmes. The average income received from the Government by a Training and Enterprise Council in England during the period 28th March 1994 to 26th March 1995 was £19.297 million. Further information may be found inTraining and Enterprise Councils in England Income and Expenditure Account 1994–95, published by HMSO, a copy of which is held in the Library.

In line with other private companies, Training and Enterprise Councils are required to provide information about the remuneration of directors and employees in the notes to their annual accounts. Copies of these are also held in the Library.

How many unemployed people and how many school leavers have been placed in employment from each Training and Enterprise Council since 1st January 1995.
