To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his answer of 16 July,Official Report, column 446, about prisoners at Buckley Hall prison serving sentences for rape, murder, armed robbery, manslaughter and arson, which of the fires that have occurred at the prison since 14 December 1994 have been caused by prisoners with a sentence for arson. Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from David Scott to Ms Liz Lynne, dated 24 July 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about fires that have occurred at Buckley Hall prison since 14 December 1994 and which may have been caused by prisoners with a sentence for arson. There have been no fires at Buckley Hall which have been caused by any prisoner serving a sentence for arson.
