To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many complaints he has received regarding the newly privatised parts of the rail network; and how many about those services provided by British Rail in the same period. [33179]

Since the commencement of the first franchised services on 4 February 1996, I have received 29 complaints about railway passenger services operated by franchise operators, and 219 about those operated by British Rail.
