Letter from R. M. Bradley to Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody, dated 23 July 1996:
The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your Questions about the number of UK residents who currently hold valid UK Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency in Marine Engineer and Deck Officer classes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the number of Certificates of Equivalent Competency which have been issued since they were introduced.I regret that I cannot answer your two questions about UK residents holding certificates of competency because the information is not held in the form requested and can only be provided at disproportionate cost.In answer to your third question, 26 Certificates of Equivalent Competency have been issued since they were introduced on 1 August 1995.
