The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question asking for assault rates in each category C prison.Provisional figures for 1995–96 are shown in the attached table. Statistics for assaults in each Prison Service establishment are published each year in 'Statistics of offences against prison discipline and punishments England and Wales'.
