To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many persons detained under Immigration Act powers were released on bail by the Immigration Appellate Authority in(a) 1994, (b) 1995 and (c) 1996 to date. [35600]

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many appeals against a refusal of asylum are currently outstanding with the Immigration Appellate Authority. [35608]

As at the end of June 1996, there were 16,809 appeals outstanding.
