HC Deb 08 July 1996 vol 281 cc72-3W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate he has made of the cost to local authorities submitting TPP bids in the latest year. [35922]

Mr. Norris

We have made no such estimate. It is for individual local authorities to decide on the precise content of their transport policies and programmes submissions, although we encourage them to keep the size of TPPs to a minimum—see paragraphs 17 and 18 of local authority circular 2/96, copies of which have been deposited in the Library.

Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total of(a) TPP bids received in the last year, (b) the amounts of those bids approved and (c) the proposition of (b) funded by his Department. [35921]

Mr. Norris

The total of TPP bids from local authorities for 1996–97 was £2,260 million, of which £795 million—35.2 per cent.—was accepted as part of the local transport capital settlement announced on 19 December 1995.
