To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress Her Majesty's Government have made in improving safety at sea; and if he will make a statement. [34701]

We have successfully pursued a number of proposals, both in the International Maritime Organisation and in the European Community, leading to agreements on improving standards, including the Stockholm agreement on ferry safety. We shall continue to work towards the implementation of higher standards.
