Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport which stations on the Northern line(a) were improved during 1995–96 and (b) are due to be improved in 1996–97. [:35894]

Mr. Norris

(a) During 1995–96 London Underground Ltd. made improvements to the following Northern line stations:

  • Balham
  • Brent Cross
  • Burnt Oak
  • Chalk Farm
  • Clapham North
  • Clapham South
  • Colindale
  • Finchley Central
  • Hampstead
  • Kentish Town
  • Old Street
  • Tufnell Park

(b) LUL is making improvements to the following Northern line stations during 1996–97:

  • Clapham Common
  • Hampstead
  • Kentish Town
  • Mornington Crescent
  • Old Street
  • Oval
  • Tooting Bec
  • Tooting Broadway.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how much London Transport spent upgrading facilities on the Northern line in 1995–96; and how much it expects to spend in(a) 1996–97 and (b) 1997–98. [35893]

Mr. Norris

During 1995–96, London Underground Ltd. invested a total of £104 million in capital projects on the Northern line.

  1. (a) LUL has a budget of £96 million for capital investment in the Northern line during 1996–97
  2. (b) LUL's budget for investment in the Northern line during 1997–96 is £93 million.
