HL Deb 04 July 1996 vol 573 c114WA
Viscount Ullswater

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have considered the advice they have received from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation on the future of the schools BCG immunisation programme.

Baroness Cumberlege

The Government have accepted fully the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) that Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) should be routinely offered to all school children between the ages of 10 and 14. The advice we have received from the JCVI is in line with the current recommendation as set out in the Department of Health's memorandumImmunisation Against Infectious Disease, copies of which are available in the Library. We would therefore expect all health authorities to offer BCG immunisation routinely to school children.
