However, the council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has, since 1991, recommended that all dispensed preparations of methadone mixture should be supplied in containers with child-resistant closures. From 1 January 1995, it has been a professional requirement that all liquid medicines dispensed by pharmacists are dispensed in child-resistant containers.
