HC Deb 29 February 1996 vol 272 cc698-9W
Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about sheriffdom and sheriff court district boundaries following reorganization of local government. [18601]

Mr. Michael Forsyth

My Department issued a consultation document on 29 December 1995, copies of which have been placed in the Library. As a result of the responses to the consultation paper, I propose to make only minor adjustments to five sheriff court district boundaries as described. As a consequence of these changes, there would be minor changes to the boundaries of the sheriffdoms of Glasgow and Strathkelvin and South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway respectively. My proposals will be brought before the House for approval shortly.

Sheriff Court District Proposed Changes
Airdrie Airdrie will retain its current jurisdiction with the addition of part of Strathclyde Electoral Division 46 (Chryston)
Arbroath Arbroath will retain its current jurisdiction and absorb Tayside Electoral Division 30 (Monifieth)
Forfar Forfar will retain its current jurisdiction and assume responsibility for that part of Tayside Electoral Division 31 (Sidlaw) which is now contained within the Angus Council district.
Sheriff Court District Proposed Changes
Glasgow The only part of Strathkelvin which is not to be absorbed into the new East Dunbartonshire Council is part of Strathclyde Electoral Division 46 (Chryston). This will be transferred from Glasgow to Airdrie Sheriff Court district.
Perth Perth will retain its current jurisdiction with the addition of part of Tayside Electoral Division 31 (Sidlaw)
