§ Mr. Gwilym JonesThe number of people currently employed by Japanese-owned manufacturing companies in Wales is 13,147; for European Union manufacturing companies, the figure is 19,487; and, for United States-owned manufacturing companies, the figure is 30,439. Wales has an excellent inward investment record which complements the part played by indigenous companies in the economic well-being of the country.
§ Mr. LlwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people are employed by overseas-owned manufacturing companies in Wales; and if he will make a statement. [16509]
§ Mr. JonesSome 70,670 people are employed by overseas-owned manufacturing companies in Wales. These are valuable jobs provided by some of the biggest companies in the world. Their contribution to the Welsh economy is enormous and I am keen to see that contribution increased even further.
