The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the percentage of Prison Service budget spent on security.Estimates of current expenditure on security are not available. Staff in prison establishments are multi-functional and all are responsible for ensuring that security is maintained.In most capital projects it is not possible to identify integral security costs.expenditure on overt security devices, for example perimeter walls and closed circuit television is recorded in the table below.
