§ Mr. ForthAn informal meeting of Social Affairs Ministers in Venice on 3 February 1996 re-emphasised the importance of education and training issues to European competitiveness. The Commission's White Paper, "Teaching and Learning: Towards a Learning Society", provided a focus for a debate on the contribution of education and training to the promotion of employment. As this was an informal meeting, no formal conclusions were reached.
