For what periods, and where, has warble fly dressing been compulsory and what have been the recommended products for (a) beef cattle (b) dairy cattle.

The State Veterinary Service normally requires the treatment of all herds within a 3 km radius of a farm where there is serological or clinical evidence

of warble fly infestation. In addition, all cattle imported into Great Britain are required to he treated for warble fly infestation within 24 hours of their arrival.

The table below lists those counties where compulsory 3 km treatment areas have been imposed during the last five years and the number of times. It should he noted, however, that serological evidence of infestation was detected on 215 premises in 1995 hut, because there was no evidence of clinical disease, 3 km treatment areas were not imposed and compulsory treatment was restricted to individual herds:
