HL Deb 05 February 1996 vol 569 cc5-6WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether there are some 12,000 United States troops not under International Forces (IFOR) command in and around ex-Yugoslavia, and, if so what is the role of these troops and under what command they are operating.

Lord Chesham:

We are not aware of any United States troops in the former Yugoslavia that arc not either under the command of NATO (in the Implementation Force (IFOR) or the United Nations (in the UN Preventative Deployment Force in Macedonia [UNPREDEP]). When deployment is complete, there will be some 20,000 United States troops in IFOR. There are 565 United States troops in UNPREDEP.
