§ Mr. Barry JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many redundancies were declared in 1995; and what percentage of those redundancies were in manufacturing. [12425]
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesThe only information available is from the quarterly labour force survey, which estimates the number of people who were made redundant in the three months prior to the survey. In Wales, an estimated 15,000 people were made redundant in the three months prior to interview in the spring 1995 labour force survey. The corresponding figure for the summer 1995 survey was 10,000.
The results from autumn 1995 and winter 1995 are not yet available. No reliable estimates relating to manufacturing can be made because of the relatively small sample size.
