HC Deb 01 February 1996 vol 270 c920W
Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much has been allocated annually for mental illness specific grants since 1990, showing in each year the amount contributed(a) by central Government and (b) by local authorities, including the amounts projected for the next two years. [12295]

Mr. Bowis

The table shows the amount of mental illness specific grant allocated in each year since the grant was introduced in 1991–92 showing the sums contributed by central and local government for each year. The table also shows the amounts projected for 1996–97. The figures assume that local authorities will take up the full amount of grant made available to them in 1995–96 and 1996–97. The figures for 1991–92 to 1994–95 represent actual expenditure.

The contribution from central Government includes an amount, currently £2.2 million, which helps to fund the homeless Mentally ill initiative in London.

The circular announcing the arrangements for the 1996–97 MISG will be published shortly.
