HC Deb 29 April 1996 vol 276 cc414-5W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many pigs have been exported for(a) further fattening, (b) slaughter and (c) breeding in each year since 1992. [26657]

Mrs. Browning

[holding answer 26 April 1996]: The table shows recorded exports of live swine, as recorded in the overseas trade statistics of the United Kingdom. It is not possible to identify precisely whether the animals were exported for fattening or slaughter, but pure-bred animals for breeding are separately identifiable. The member may wish to refer to the business monitor MA20 and MA21 series, available in the Library of the House, which provides more detail on recorded overseas trade statistics—within which live animal trade can be found in division 00.
