§ Mr. Jonathan EvansA British national appealing against a prison sentence imposed overseas would be doing so under the jurisdiction of the overseas country. Legal aid would be available to the appellant according to the rules of any scheme operated by that country. Under the legal aid scheme of England and Wales, legal aid is limited to matters of English law and to proceedings before the courts of England and Wales. Parallel provisions apply under the legal aid schemes of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
