To ask the Secretary of State for Health what interest GPs have shown in the Government's total purchasing initiative. [38230]

Mr. Malone

Health authorities and fundholding general practitioners have shown considerable interest in this initiative. That is why we announced that we would extend the number of pilot projects in England from 51 to around 70 in total. We have also decided to extend the formal evaluation programme from two years to three.
