To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many jobs have been created by the Cardiff Bay development corporation; and how much private sector money has been involved. [37827]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

A total of £420 million of private sector investment has been attracted to Cardiff bay. This has generated around 10,500 jobs, of which nearly 5,500 are permanent.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his current estimate of the winding up date of the Cardiff Bay development corporation; and what consultations he has had with the relevant local authorities concerning the transfer of its assets and liabilities. [40551]

Mr. Hague

My predecessor informed the House on 7 July 1994,Official Report, column 465, expected to be possible to wind up the Cardiff Bay development corporation by the end of 1999. This remains the position. Consultations with the appropriate unitary local authorities will open after the reorganisation of local government.
