HC Deb 27 October 1995 vol 264 cc853-4W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will encourage initiatives in Wales in parallel with those of the National Farmers Union and the British Medical Association in running seminars on the hazards of organophosphorus toxicity; and if he will make a statement. [38620]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The National Farmers Union and the British Medical Association arranged a conference earlier this year to discuss organophosphorus sheep dips. I understand that they have no plans for any further seminars on this subject. Advice on the safe handling and disposal of sheep dip is available in various forms, including a leaflet produced jointly by the Health and Safety Executive, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Department of the Environment. This was distributed to all farmers in the United Kingdom.
