§ Mr. HagueNursing homes in Wales reported that of their 10,661 residents on 31 March 1994:
- 1,845 were wholly privately supported;
- 5,128 were supported in whole or in part by the Department of Social Security;
- 1,322 were supported in whole or in part by both the local authority and the Department of Social Security;
- 933 were supported in whole or in part by the local authority;
- 45 were supported by the health authority;
- 1,388 residents did not disclose their means of financial support.
Separate figures are not collected centrally to show the proportions of fees that are met by individuals. Almost all residents placed in nursing homes by local authorities will make some contribution towards the costs from their income, such as pensions.
