HC Deb 27 October 1995 vol 264 c888W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much expenditure his Department has incurred so far as a result of local government reform. [39403]

Mr. Kynoch

[holding answer 26 October 1995]: A wide range of Scottish Office staff have been involved to varying degrees on local government reform. The administrative and associated costs incurred by them cannot be separately identified. Specific elements of the reform have, however, been separately costed and these are listed in the following table:

Cost £
Consultation Paper—"The Case for Change" (1991) and Consultation Paper— "Shaping the New Councils (1992) and associated leaflets, consultation videos, summary of responses etc." 148,800
White Paper—"Shaping the Future—The New Councils" and associated leaflets 58,200
"The New Councils" leaflet (household drop) 138,600
Total 345,660

Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what use his Department has made of outside consultants as part of the process of local government reform in Scotland. [39401]

Mr. Kynoch

[holding answer 26 October 1995]: The services of Touche Ross were used for work in connection with the costs of local government reform.
