HC Deb 27 October 1995 vol 264 c872W
Mr. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what occasions the United Kingdom supplied(a) cultures and (b) chemical agents for the Iraqi biological weapons programmes between 1974 and 1990. [40096]

Mr. David Davis

Comprehensive information on relevant exports to Iraq is not available because many items were not subject to export licence procedures. Lists of export licences issued for Iraq between the years 1987 and 1990 were supplied to the Select Committee on Trade and Industry in November 1991.

Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government will seek further information from the United Nations special commission on Iraq on the involvement of British companies in Iraq's(a) chemical, (b) nuclear and (c) biological warfare programmes. [40097]

Mr. David Davis

We are in regular communication with UNSCOM and follow up any evidence that British companies have supplied materials relevant to Iraqi programmes to acquire weapons of mass destruction.
