To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many people are employed by the British Geological Survey's petroleum division in Scotland on(a) a full-time and (b) a part-time basis. [39667]

Petroleum activities within BGS are carried out within the survey's petroleum geology, geophysics, and offshore surveys division. In Scotland, 51 full-time personnel who are Edinburgh-based undertake work that relates directly and indirectly to petroleum.
