To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the Government's policy towards UN peacekeeping initiatives. [36883]

We have played a leading role in supporting the UN Secretary-General's efforts to enhance UN peacekeeping capacity. In particular, we have helped strengthen the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and have supported the Secretary-General's attempts to improve UN rapid reaction capability. We are also helping to enhance the capability of African states to undertake effective peacekeeping.
