HC Deb 25 October 1995 vol 264 cc725-6W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many inspectors are employed in the field to check on the use of and levels of pesticides. [37744]

Sir Paul Beresford

Inspectors or other enforcement officers are not allocated solely to matters relating to pesticides. Pesticides work forms only part of a range of work for which they are responsible. This includes, for example, the health and safety of people at work, the protection and improvement of the water environment and the protection of wildlife. As at 1 October 1995, the total number of inspectors or enforcement officers in the field are set out in the table.
