HC Deb 25 October 1995 vol 264 cc663-4W
23. Sir Michael Neubert

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next expects to meet his American and European counterparts to discuss developments in the former Yugoslavia. [36877]

Sir Nicholas Bonsor

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave earlier to the hon. Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner).

25. Mr. Hutton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the prosecution of persons charged with war crimes in the former Yugoslavia. [36879]

Sir Nicholas Bonsor

The tribunal has issued eight indictments against 46 individuals so far. All these have been Serbs but non-Serbs are currently being investigated. Judge Goldstone has indicated that indictments will be issued within two months. The first trial, against Dusko Tadic, a guard in the Omarska POW camp, has already heard preliminary motions and is currently receiving witnesses.

29. Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to prevent further human rights abuses and ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia. [36885]

Sir Nicholas Bonsor

During recent visits to the former Yugoslavia, my right hon. and learned Friend the Foreign Secretary and I made clear to all parties our condemnation of human rights abuses and atrocities.

We fully support the work of the war crimes tribunal and believe those who have committed atrocities should answer in court for their actions.
