Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list all Ministers who have visited Cyprus in the last three years to discuss the issue of Cyprus. [38486]

Mr. David Davis

None, although British Ministers maintain regular contact with leading figures in both Cypriot communities. The then Foreign Secretary, the right hon. Member for Witney (Mr. Hurd) met President Clerides and Mr. Denktash while visiting the island for Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in October 1993.

Mr. Waterson

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made towards the accession of Cyprus to the European Union; and if he will make a statement. [36862]

Mr. Davis

The Cannes European Council reaffirmed that accession negotiations will start six months after the conclusion of the IGC, and taking account of its outcome.
