HC Deb 25 October 1995 vol 264 c705W
Sir Wyn Roberts

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what statistics he has on the change in the number of computers available to pupils in schools in Wales in the last decade. [38410]

Mr. Richards

Surveys of microcomputers in schools were undertaken in 1986, 1988 and 1992. The 1986 survey covered only a third of primary schools, and special schools were covered only in 1992. The following table shows the average number of pupils per microcomputer, in those primary, secondary and special schools who responded to the surveys.

Number of pupils per microcomputer
1986 1988 1992
Primary schools 97 68 34
Secondary schools 55 30 14
