Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what new proposals he has to discourage the use of bull bars; and when he plans to introduce a total ban. [38163]

The Transport Research Laboratory is currently analysing police reports of accidents involving bull bars which occurred in 1994. The results will not be available until towards the end of the year and we will then decide what, if any, legislation is needed.

Meanwhile, officials of the Department of Transport are discussing the feasibility of prohibiting bull bars with the European Commission.
