77WAs you know, the Minister for Railways and Road, Mr. John Watts, has asked me to reply to you recent Parliamentary Question concerning road schemes completed in the last 5 years.You asked for details of projected costs for each of these schemes together with the actual cost on completion. I enclose a list of all schemes completed in the last 5 years together with details of tender costs (works only) and actual cost on completion, where that information is readily available.It has not been possible to supply the actual cost on completion for many of the schemes concerned because final accounts have not yet been agreed with the contractors concerned. To publish estimates of the final outturn in such cases would undermine the position of the consulting engineers appointed by the Agency to administer those contracts in dealing with claims for extra payment submitted by the contractors and therefore place public funds at risk. Also on some schemes records are not immediately to hand and I will write to you again when further information is available.78W79W
