HC Deb 24 November 1995 vol 267 cc335-6W
Mr. Battle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made towards cutting energy consumption in Government buildings for which he has responsibility, in each year since 1990. [1456]

Mr. Robert B. Jones

Figures for the energy efficiency performance of the Government estate are published annually. The information given in the last report— published in the answer to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for East Surrey, (Mr. Ainsworth) on 17 May 1995,Official Report, column 260—showed that the percentage reduction in the standard energy cost performance indicator for each year covered, relative to the base year 1990–91, for the Department of the Environment was as follows:

  • 1991–92: 3 percent.
  • 1992–93: 5 per cent.
  • 1993–94: 9 per cent.

Energy efficiency is an important aspect in the specifications for the new buildings which the Department will occupy once it vacates 2 Marsham street.
