HC Deb 23 November 1995 vol 267 cc298-9W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proportion of Northern Ireland Housing Executive properties have been let to persons classified as homeless in each of the last 10 years. [12]

Mr. Moss

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive has statutory responsibility to deal with the homeless under the provisions of the Housing (NI) Order 1988. While precise figures are not available, it is estimated that the proportion of lettings by the Housing Executive to those accepted as homeless, since 1989–90, the first full year of operation of the homelessness legislation, is as follows:

  • 1989–90: 21 per cent.
  • 1990–91: 32 per cent.
  • 1991–92: 36 per cent.
  • 1992–93: 38 per cent.
  • 1993–94: 37 per cent.
  • 1994–95: 36 per cent.
