HC Deb 21 November 1995 vol 267 c47W
Mr. Robert Ainsworth

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount per week a married couple with two children on average male earnings is estimated to have paid in VAT, at today's prices, in the year 1978–79; and what he estimates a similar family will pay in(a) 1995–96 and (b) 1996–97. [86]

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

It is estimated that the average amount of VAT paid by non-retired households with one or more children on average disposable income was £905 in 1979 and £1,495 in 1993, both at 1993 prices. Figures for future years will depend on the purchasing decisions of individuals.
