HC Deb 21 November 1995 vol 267 cc75-6W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the British share of the Airbus consortium; how many jobs result from that share; and what plans the Government have to increase their share of the consortium. [1013]

Mr. Eggar

British Aerospace has a 20 per cent. share in Airbus Industrie. The Government have no share in the Airbus consortium; questions relating to BAe's share are a matter for the company. Over 25,000 British workers are directly involved in the Airbus programmes.

Mr. Cunningham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many new jobs the Airbus consortium expects to create by 2010. [1008]

Mr. Eggar

This is a matter for British Aerospace and the other partners in the Airbus consortium.

Mr. Cunningham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the predicted rise of Airbus' fleet capacity by 2010, expressing the figures in terms of(a) real capacity and (b) world market share. [1007]

Mr. Eggar

(a) Airbus Industrie forecasts a world-wide requirement for about 13,000 new large civil aircraft, valued at about $1,000 billion, by 2014.

(b) Airbus hopes to increase its share of the market over this period from 30 per cent. to 50 per cent.
