To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the number of widows in receipt of widow's benefit excluding those receiving widow's bereavement allowance as at March. [41612]

The information is not available in the format requested. The number of widows in receipt of widow's benefit at March 1995 is 290,000¹. The number of widows in receipt of widow's bereavement allowance in the 1995–96 tax year is 70,000².
