To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the projects, their location and cost funded last year and the year before from his budget on coastal protection. [41691]

Mr. Boswell

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is responsible for flood and coastal defence policy in England. The Ministry administers the Coast Protection Act 1949 and provides financial assistance for approved capital works, and studies, undertaken by coast protection authorities to protect land from erosion and encroachment by the sea. A list of the schemes approved for grant aid and supplementary credit approval to enable authorities to borrow to cover the residual costs in the 1993–94 and 1994–95 financial years is as follows:
